Dia daoibh Friends,

I'm just back from Ireland, my creative well overflowing from the Historical Novel Society Conference at Maynooth University (headliners included John Banville and Martina Devlin), followed by glorious days touring Dublin (Guinness Storehouse, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Oscar Wilde House), Belfast (Titanic Museum, Belfast Castle, Game of Thrones Studio Tour, the Ulster Museum) and Northern Ireland's Causeway Coast (Layd Church, Torr Head/Balleycastle, Dunluce Castle, Giant's Causeway and more); the latter graciously guided by author pal Finola Austin and Finola's dad, Kevin.

Along the way, we enjoyed amazing food and drink, from hearty pub fare to cocktails and dinner at Belfast's five-star Merchant Hotel.

Hi Friends, June sped by, my free time spent packing in as many New Jersey state parks as possible and powering through Ken Burns' The American Revolution. And yet somehow July sneaked up on me, hence this newsletter going out later in the day. As we're all ramping up to ring in America's 250th birthday, I'll keep things brief. On Thursday,...

Hi Friends, May was mostly a writing month for me punctuated by reading and Netflix. I absolutely adored The Widows of Malabar Hill, the launch of Sujata Massey's "Perveen Mistry" mystery series set in 1920s Bombay and centered on a lady lawyer-cum-sleuth. Further to female lawyers in history, I binged all three seasons of "The Law According to Lydia Poët," a...

Hi Friends, April here on the east coast saw winter holding on with a vengeance though we did have one week of beautiful, sunshiny reprieve during which the Hubs and I seized our chance to check out the annual orchid show at the New York Botanical Garden. This year's program was Mr. Flower Fantastic’s Concrete Jungle —...
